What does resilience really look like?
Not the highlight reel version.
Not the motivational quote version.
But the 3 a.m., can’t-sleep, spiraling-thoughts version.
In this vulnerable solo episode of Dare On with Jodi, I’m sharing the full story of my knee replacement recovery — including the fear, frustration, sleep disruption, and emotional weight that came with it.
More importantly, I’m sharing how I used the same resilience tools I teach inside the Dare On Circle, on this podcast, and on stage — in real time.
If you’re navigating a hard season — whether it’s surgery recovery, an empty nest, a health shift, relationship changes, or simply feeling overwhelmed — this episode will remind you that resilience isn’t about being positive all the time.
It’s about practicing the tools when it matters most.
In This Episode We Cover:
- How to advocate for yourself in medical decisions
- Why trusting your inner knowing builds resilience
- The impact of sleep disruption on fear and self-talk
- How to use the T.A.L.K. method (Take Notice, Acknowledge, Learn, Kick It Out)
- Why realistic recovery expectations matter
- How to manage fear of pain and fear of the unknown
- Reframing setbacks during physical and emotional recovery
- Building mental resilience during midlife transitions
The T.A.L.K. Method for Resilience
When negative or fearful thoughts show up:
- Take Notice – Identify the thought.
- Acknowledge – Allow the feeling without pushing it away.
- Learn – Get curious about what it’s trying to protect you from.
- Kick It Out – Replace it with an alternative, empowering possibility.
This is the foundation of mental resilience.
